SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for waterwell pumping�r,;
equipment. Bid No. 1383.

This report concerns award of bid for waterwell pumping equipment
in the total amount of $6,694.96, including applicable sales tax.
This purchase is chargeable to account 38- 500 - 671 - 000 -862, Repair
of Water Production and Treatment Equipment, which has a current
balance of $35,397.23.
Background
This encompasses use of existing city -owned material and new
contractor - furnished material plus all labor, tools and equipment
required to refurbish salt water pump #2 located at Pacific Street
and Santa Monica Beach. The salt water is used to backwash the
freshwater softening beds and to regenerate the softening media.
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to provide materials
and service in accordance with city specifications, one (1) bid
was received and publicly opened and read in the office of the
City Manager June 27, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to seventeen
(17) pump companies and notices were advertised in accordance with
city charter and municipal code provisions. The sole bidder,
McCalla Brothers, Inc. submitted only and alternate bid which was
reviewed and found to be acceptable by the Enterprises Manager.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to McCalla Brothers, Inc.
in the total amount of $6,694.96.
