SR-02-14-1978-6PFEB 1 4 1978 Santa Monica, California, February 6, 1978 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Construction of Site Improvements at City Yards Fire Department Training Complex -- Award of Contract Introduction This report recommends that the City Council award a contract for the con- struction of site improvements at the City Yards Fire Department Training Complex to Sully- Miller Contracting Co. in the amount of their bid of $60,747. Background The site improvements in this project include the following: (1) Installation of fire hydrant for training purposes; (2) Construction of a catch basin and connecting pipe from a training area; (3) Relocation of a fence to compensate for area lost for a refuse recycling project; and (4) Grading, pavement construction over existing dirt area, and resurfacing to ready the area for training purposes. Bids for the subject project were opened in the City Council Chambers after 3:00 p.m. on January 30, 1978, and read publicly by the City Clerk. Plans and specifications were issued to nine (9) contractors. Five (5) bids were received as follows: Sully- Miller Contracting Co. ........ $60,747.00 Cal /Ex Engineering and Paving Co..... 61,000.00 Doty Construction Co., Inc........... 63,586.75 Key Paving Co., Inc . ................ 68,582.00 Aldo's Landscaping Co . .............. 69,110.00 F EB 1 4 1978 To: Mayor and Council -2- February 6, 1978 City Engineer's Estimate ............. 60,000.00 Funds in the amount of $70,000 were budgeted in 1976 -77, Account 01- 300 -311- 000 -920, Phase II, for this portion. These funds are encumbered in Job Order 77430 -000. The construction of this project should start March 1 and be completed by May 12, barring unusually heavy rains.
