Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver tire and
tubes as ordered by the City during the fiscal year 79 -80 in the
estimated amount of $31,671.06, including applicable tax. Purchases
initially will be charged to account 99- 955 -010- 000 -000, Warehouse
Revolving Account, Individual Department operating accounts will be
charged as these products are issued.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids, proposals were received
and publicly opened and read May 22, 1979. Proposal forms were mailed
to thirty -nine (39) tire companies and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Nine (9)
bids were received as listed on the attached Summary. With the exception
of items 2, 5A, 5B, and 5C, the recommendation is made according to the
lowest bid as to each item. If purchased from Benjamin Tire Company,
the lowest bidder on these excepted items, the cost would be $526.88.
If purchased from the second lowest bidders as to each of these excepted
items, the total cost would be $533.72. It is considered that the
difference of $6.86 does not warrant the additional expense entailed
in issuing and administering and additional order to Benjamin Tire
Company.
