SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for hydraulic valve operator.

Introduction
This report concerns award of bid in the amount of $5,855.44, including
applicable tax for one (1) hydraulic valve operator. This purchase
will be charged to account number 39- 800 - 672- 110 -951, Water Department
Capital Outlay.
Background
This operator is a truck - mounted, slide -out unit that will be used to
open and close the large valves in the City water distribution system.
The truck has been purchased through the State of California coopera-
tive purchasing system and the body is being purchased separately (Bid
No. 1462). In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish a
valve operator in accordance with specifications, one (1) bids was
received and publicly opened and read June 19, 1979. Proposal packages
were mailed to thirty -two (32) waterworks equipment and hydraulic
machinery suppliers and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Western Water Works Supply Company,
the sole bidder, offered to supply the operator for $5,855.44 ($5,524.00
plus $331.44 tax). Terms are net.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Western Water Works Supply
Company, in the amount of $5,855.44, including tax.
