SUBJECT: Recommendation to ratify purchase and installation of
Municipal Pool Pumps.

Introduction
This report concerns ratification of the emergency purchase and
installation of two (2) pumps at the Municipal Swimming Pool. The
total cost is $5,184.40 including applicable tax. This will be
charged to job order account number 05040 -000, Annual Maintenance of
Municipal Swimming Pool.

replacement parts required and was estimated to be less than One

contractor failed to start the repairs. On January 10, 1979, excessive
virbration required that one (1) pump be shut down. The remaining pump's
performance indicated that it also would need extensive repair. On
January 11, 1979, Pacific Pump was advised that the purchase order was
cancelled for nonperformance and another vendor, General Pump Company,
was called.
General Pump Company responded promptly. Upon dismantling these 28-
year old pumps it was ascertained that.both were worn excessively and
that certain parts were not available. In view of the need to return
the pool to service in time for Santa Monica College swimming final
examinations, the decision was made to replace the pumps for the cost of
Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) each plus installation. Because of the
