SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for refuse containers.
Bid No. 1330.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for refuse containers in the
total amount of $74,347.34, including applicable sales tax.
Funds for this purchase are in account number 80- 975 - 127 - 000 -000,
Refuse Bins Revolving Account, budgeted at $203,854.00.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish fifty (50)
three -cubic yard and four hundred (400) two -cubic yard metal
refuse containers, bids were received and publicly opened and
read in'the office of the City Manager December 15, 1977. Pro-
posal forms were mailed to six (6) container manufacturers and
notices were advertised in accordance with city charter and muni-
cipal code provisions. Three (3) proposals were received, each
containing a primary and alternate bid, as indicated on the
attached summary.
The alternate bid of Cubic Container Manufacturing for Item 1
offers a stamped caster rig in lieu of the forged assembly
desired. The primary bid of Peabody Solid Wastes Management

offers a two -inch (2 ") diameter load bearing washer in lieu
of the four -inch (4 ") assembly desired. The City has used these
two -inch (2 ") types previously and has experienced a high inci-
dence of damage when containers are moved laterally.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Consolidated Fabrica-
tors, Corporation, as the best bidder, in the total amount of
$74,347.34, including tax.
