SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bids for traffic signs and
street name signs. Bid No. 1331.

This report concerns award of bid for three hundred ten (310)
traffic signs and one hundred sixty two (162) street name sign
faces in the total amount of $3,474.98 including sales tax. The
traffic sign purchase will be charged to account 01- 500 - 413- 000 -401,
Parking and Traffic Special Department Supplies, budgeted at
$90,420.00. The street name purchase will be charged to work
order number 15200 -030, Maintenance of Street Sign Names, budgeted
at $6,000.00.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver the traffic and street name signs in the type and quantity
specified, bids were received and publicly opened and read in the
office of the City Manager December 15, 1977. Proposal forms
were mailed to eight (8) known vendors and notices were advertised
in accordance with City Charter and municipal code provisions.
Three (3) proposals were received as listed on the attached
summary.
Although the proposal solicited unit prices as to each of the
fifty -one (51) individual items, two of the three vendors

responded with "all or none" bids as to each section. This
precluded analysis as to item and the evaluation was made on
total bid for each section.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the awards be made to Bowman Industries,
Inc., for street name signs in the total amount of $1,509.42,
and to Safeway Sign Company, for traffic signs in the total
amount of $2,465.56, as the lowest and best bidders.
