Background On September 10, 2013, Council authorized a contract with G2K Construction, Inc. in the amount of $484,600, for the construction of the Hotchkiss and Marine Park Public Restroom Renovation Project. One contract modification in the amount of $45,425 was issued via change order within budget authority due to unforeseen conditions, added scope and design changes. 1 Discussion The Park Restroom Renovation project began construction in December 2013 with partial demolition of the old restroom structures. Substantial damage was encountered in the existing walls of both restroom facilities that required replacement. The City also elected to increase some wall sizes and add additional structural support to prevent future maintenance issues. These unforeseen conditions and scope changes require additional funding. Staff recommends a second modification in the amount of $30,000 (includes contingency of $5,000) to minimize delays and accommodate the additional work authorized to date as well as any future unforeseen conditions and scope changes. There is no schedule impact with this change order. Construction Schedule The contractor is currently 50% complete with the construction and plans to complete the project in summer 2014. Financial Impacts & Budget Actions The contract modification amount to be awarded to G2K Construction, Inc. is $30,000, (includes contingency of $5,000) for an amended contract total not to exceed $562,400. Funds are available in the FY2013 -14 Capital Improvement Program budget in account C196041.589000. This project is funded by federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
