Re: Task Force and the Environment Motion Regarding the New Local: California
Climate Change Exchange
At the Task Force on the Environment (ETF) August 19th meeting, the new locally
formed organization, California Climate Change Exchange (CCCX) provided a
presentation and request.
They stated that the goal of the CCCX is to facilitate people "coming to grips with
Climate Change" by hosting, free of charge, a series of forums at the Church in Ocean
Park and developing a one-stop online educational resource linking individuals, through
the use of a questionnaire, to organizations dealing with climate change.
The CCCX requested co-sponsors, both fiscal and in-kind, for the first CCCX Forum
which will take place the afternoon of Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Church in
Ocean Park at 235 Hill Street, Santa Monica. They requested that the Task Force on
the Environment 1) be a co-sponsor, 2) recommend that the City Council support our
work, and 3) have ETF members and/or staff enter discussions on how we might
enhance CCCX and the October 27, 2013 CCCX Forum.
After discussion, the Task Force on the Environment (ETF) unanimously adopted the
following motion and requests that the City Council provide this position:
Motion:
The Santa Monica Task Force on the Environment (ETF) recommends City Council
support the beneficial efforts of the California Climate Change Exchange (CCCX),
including their first CCCX Forum at the Church in Ocean Park on October 27, 2013, to
help the community move from climate awareness to action.
