A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DECLARING CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 1731-
1733 20th STREET AS SURPLUS AND AUTHORIZING NEGOTIATIONS FOR SALE
OF PROPERTY TO CROSSROADS SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND SCIENCE
WHEREAS, the 772 sq. ft. remnant parcel located within the parcel at 1731 -1733
20th Street (`Property ") was deeded to the City of Santa Monica on or about 1968 by the
State of California as part of the Interstate 10 Freeway construction; and
WHEREAS, the Property is deemed as "exempt surplus land" within the meaning
of Government Code section 54221 because it is less than 5000 square feet in area and
is not contiguous to land owned by a state or local agency that is used for park,
recreational, open- space, or low- and moderate - income housing purposes and is
located neither within an enterprise zone pursuant to Government Code section 7073
nor a designated program area as defined in Government Code section 7082; and
WHEREAS, the Property is proposed to be sold to the Crossroads School for
Arts and Science ( "School') because it is the owner of land contiguous to the Property;
and
WHEREAS, the Property is not needed for City public purpose; and
WHEREAS, Santa Monica Municipal Code (SMMC) Section 2.24.110 establishes
requirements for sale of City -owned real property, including public notices, presentation
of the bids to City Council, and City Council authority to determine by vote that to
advertise for bids would be to no avail and would cause unnecessary expense and
delay and would not be in the best interest of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City -owned property located at 1731 -1733 20`h Street in Santa
Monica is no longer needed for any City public purpose and is therefore considered
surplus property.
SECTION 2. The City is authorized to negotiate with the School for the for the
sale of the Property without first advertising for bids because advertising for bids would
be to no avail and would cause unnecessary expense and delay and would not be in the
best interest of the City.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
