A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA RELATING TO THE CIVIL SERVICE STATUS OF
CITY EMPLOYEES IN THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
WHEREAS, the City Manager proposed a ballot measure to amend certain
provisions of the City Charter relating to City Department Heads and the civil service
system; and
WHEREAS, on November 7, 2006, the voters adopted the measure; and
WHEREAS, the measure was intended to modify the status of department
heads, promote accountability, and facilitate successful recruiting; and
WHEREAS, one provision of the measure affected existing employees in the City
Clerk's Office, specifying that they would become exempt from civil service rules, unless
the City Council adopts a resolution to maintain their civil service status; and
WHEREAS, employees in the City Clerk's Office, except for the Assistant City
Clerk, have requested that their civil service status be preserved,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Except for the Assistant City Clerk, City employees working in the
office of the City Clerk shall retain their status as members of the civil service.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
