Subject: Adoption of Parking Fine Resolution
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that City Council adopt the attached parking fine resolution.
Executive Summary
At its July 24, 2012 meeting, the City Council adopted an ordinance amending various
sections of Santa Monica Municipal Code Article 3 related to parking operations. This
update rearranged the code and added some additional provisions which necessitate
updating the fine schedule. This report does not increase fine or penalty amounts.
Discussion
The adoption of an ordinance modifying various sections of Santa Monica Municipal
Code (SMMC) Article 3 related to parking operations on July 24, 2012 has caused
various sections of the related fine schedule to be outdated. The attached fine schedule
modifies code section to match the new ordinance. The attached fine schedule also
clarifies the difference between the City penalty and the State penalty related to parking
fines. Under SMMC 3.02.050, state penalties and fees, when adopted, can be added to
the City fine administratively. The attached fine schedule clarifies the portion of parking
citation penalties that the City receives and that portion that the State receives which
remains unchanged.
