r-10672City Council Meeting: April 24, 2012 Santa Monica, California RESOLUTION NUMBER 10672 (CCS) (City Council Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA RELATING TO THE CIVIL SERVICE STATUS OF CITY EMPLOYEES IN THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE WHEREAS, the City Manager proposed a ballot measure to amend certain provisions of the City Charter relating to City Department Heads and the civil services system; and WHEREAS, on November 7, 2006, the voters adopted the measure; and WHEREAS, the measure was intended to modify the status of department heads, promote accountability, and facilitate successful recruiting; and WHEREAS, one provision of the measure affected existing employees in the City Clerk's Office, specifying that they would become exempt from civil service rules, unless the City Council adopts a resolution to maintain their civil service status; and WHEREAS, employees in the City Clerk's Office, except for the Assistant City Clerk, requested preservation of their civil service status; and WHEREAS, on December 5, 2006, the City Council adopted Resolution Number 10189 which granted their request; and WHEREAS, the Assistant City Clerk has now requested restoration of her civil service status. NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. City employees, including.the Assistant City Clerk, working in the office of the Clerk shall retain their status as members of the civil service. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect. 2 Adopted and approved this 24th day of April, 2012.
