Subject: Real Property Near the Corporation Yards
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize staff to explore the possible purchase
of properties near the City's Corporation Yards.
Executive Summary
Staff has become aware of the availability of real property near the City's Corporation
Yards. The Corporation Yards are located at 2500 Michigan Avenue. Staff recommends
that Council authorize staff to explore possible acquisition of properties that could serve
future City needs.
Discussion
Acquisition of property near other City -owned property provides an opportunity to
address the City's long -term needs for additional space. Given the scarcity of land that
can meet the City's long -term operating needs, staff recommends that the City take
advantage of opportunities when properties become available for purchase. Sites in the
area could be used for a variety of public purposes including, but not limited to,
expansion of the Corporation Yards. Staff seeks Council authorization to evaluate
available properties for City acquisition. Should any properties prove to be potentially
appropriate for City acquisition, staff would return to Council with recommended terms
and financing.

Financial Impacts & Budget Actions
There is no budget impact associated with directing staff to explore acquisition
opportunities. Any future staff recommendation to acquire property would be
accompanied by financing recommendations.
