Subject: Acceptance of Bequest from Naomi Balamuth
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1. Authorize the City Council to adopt the attached Resolution accepting a bequest
from the estate of Naomi Balamuth.
2. Appropriate the budget increase as outlined in the Financial Impacts and Budget
Actions section of the report.
Executive Summary
The City of Santa Monica is named as a beneficiary in the Estate of Naomi Balamuth.
The terms of Ms. Balamuth's Estate will provide a gift in the amount of $500 to the
"Paramedic Unit of the City of Santa Monica ". Adoption and approval of the attached
Resolution would allow the City to accept this gift.
Discussion
Ms. Naomi Balamuth passed away on April 28, 2011. In recognition of the medical
assistance provided to her by the Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics, Ms.
Balamuth gifted $500 to the "Paramedic Unit of the City of Santa Monica ". The
department is proposing to use the funds to further the purposes and goals of the
Paramedic program. The executor of Ms. Balamuth's will is currently distributing the
assets of the Estate. Approval and adoption of the attached Resolution would allow the
City to accept the bequest from the Estate of Naomi Balamuth on behalf of the Fire
Department.

Financial Impacts & Budget Actions
Acceptance of the gift from the estate of Naomi Balamuth requires the following 2011-
13 budget changes:
1. Increase revenue account 01224.404170 in the amount of $500.
2. Appropriate $500 at account number 01312.544090 to reflect receipt of the
Balamuth bequest.
