Pursuant to Council instructions, the matter o£ a fountain at
the Civic Auditorium has been researched by an engineering
staff. A copy of their report is transmitted herewith.
A well designed fountain is one of man's noblest creations, a
delight to the eye and a comfort to the soul, but the cost, both
installation and maintenance, seems somewhat high.
It would appear that if it is the Council's dessre to add something
to the aesthetic treatment of the Auditorium area, a modest bit
of statuary might well be considered. V'~lhile less attractive,
perhaps, than an arrangement of moving water, the final cost
could well be substantially less, and the maintenance would be
negligible.
Liihichever the Council prefers, it is the suggestion of this office
that action and financial provision be deferred for consideration
in the 19b3-69 budget.
