Council Meeting: 2/9/82
T0: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Amendment to Salary Resolution No. 6185
Introduction
Santa Monica, California
FE93 9 9982
This report requests adoption of a Resolution establishing salary increases
for selected as-needed classes as determined by a study conducted by the
Personnel Department.
Background
It has been the practice of the City Council to grant periodic salary ad-
justments to employees in job classifications which are used solely for
as-needed employees and therefore do not receive negotiated increases. The
adjustments are based on the results of an annual survey of similar public
agencies conducted by Personnel staff. For most as-needed positions com-
parability is established by using the mean salary for Culver City, Beverly.
Hi11s, Burbank, Compton, Glendale, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Long Beach, Pasadena,
P.edondo Beach and Torrance, but a total of twenty-three cities and a few
private sector sources were also surveyed to ensure that .Santa Monica re-
mains a competitive employer. The increases described in an attachment td
this report have been reviewed by the Department Heads involved and have
received their approval.
Recommendation
The last as-needed salary increase was granted January 27, 1981 and it is
recommended that Council adopt the attached resolution adjusting salaries
for as-needed classifications retroactive to January 10, 1982.
