SUBJECT: Resolution Establishing Salary_for,_Pier Carpenter '~'
Introduction
This report requests adoption of a Resolution establishing the salary
for Pier Carpenter and approval of a title change for the position.
Background
In September of 1981, a reclassification and salary study was requested
for the Pier Carpenter position. Personnel studied the reclassification
request and found that the Pier Carpenter was exercising supervision
over semi-skilled and unskilled workers in addition to performing
journey level carpentry work and was not compensated for these responsi-
bilities.
Due to organization changes at the Pier, Personnel refrained from making
a final recommendation until lines of supervision at the Pier were clari-
fied. Presently, the Pier has been assigned to the PFM Division. The
irncumbent in the Pier Carpenter position in addition to his carpentry
duties continues to exercise supervision over semi-skilled and unskilled
workers.
Based on an internal salary comparison, a salary adjustment from $1,477/mo.
E-Step ($1,580 with PERS) to $1,875/mo. E-step is recommended, and a title
change to Pier Maintenance Supervisor is indicated.
The attached classification specification will be reviewed by the Personnel
Board at their February 8 meeting. Their recommendations will be for-
warded to Council on the 9th.
Recommendation
It is recommended that Council move to adopt the attached classification
specification and the attached Resolution establishing the salary for the
position of Pier Maintenance Supervisor.
