Introduction ~~ f ,~ The Airport Security Guard is a new position for which the City Council has made a specific appropriation of funds. The job specification for the position was approved by Personnel Board on January 25, 1978. Background The Airport Security Guard will perform standard security tasks such as patrol, observation of irregular conditions, and determination of illegal activities on airport grounds. Special emphasis will be placed on enforcement of the newly adopted Ordinance No. 1075 which prohibits certain kinds of night flight operations. The Airport Security Guard will be unarmed, and will use a two-way radio to keep in contact with the Santa Monica Police Department and to call for assistance when law enforcement is required. The Airport Security Guard will be deputized and will have the authority to issue citations for violations of City and airport laws and regulations. The position of Airport Attendant I pays $798 - 985 ($9,576 - 11,820 yearly). The duties involved in this position are custodial and maintenance work, and assisting with operation of the airport service station, all of which are performed under moderate supervision. The position of Airport Attendant II pays $886.- 1094 ($10,632 - 13,128 yearly). The duties involved in this position are maintenance of equipment .and grounds, and operation of the airport service station, all performed under minimal supervision. The duties of the Airport Security Guard FEB 1 4 1975 Mayor and City Council January 26, 1978 Page Two involve working alone, at night, unsupervised, and bearing the responsibility for the well-being of expensive aircraft and other equipment. The suggested salary for Airport Security Guard is $886 - 1094 ($10,632 - 13,128 yearly), the same salary paid to Airport Attendant II.
