sr-112878-6fSanta N_onica, Califorra, November 14, 1978 T0: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Amendment to Salary Resolution No. 4646 Introduction ~?NOV 2 8 1978 ~LGg`-~. G'~i This report requests an amendment to Salary Resolution No. 4646 establishing salaries for the classifications of Pier Carpenter and Event Attendant Supervisor. Job specifications for Pier Carpenter and Event Attendant Supervisor were approved by the Personnel Board on October 25, 1978. Background The Pier Division of the Entertainment Facilities Depart- ment currently has a Laborer II performing maintenance and carpentry duties on the Pier and its structures. A classification study was conducted and it was determined that the level of duties performed was above that of Laborer II. The new classification of Pier Carpenter was designed to take into consideration the carpentry duties, wooden pier construction knowledge, and the semi- autonomy of the position. Since the Pier Carpenter position is more skilled than Laborer II ($1,094/mo. E-step) and less so than Carpenter ($1,284/mo. E-step), the salary for Pier Carpenter, if approved, should be $1,189/mo. E-step ($14,268/yr.). With the creation of the Entertainment Facilities Department, the Auditorium Operations Supervisor in the Civic Auditorium took over the additional responsibilities in the operation of the Pier. / tdOV 2 8 1978 Mayor and' ity Council November ~+, 1978 -- Page Two Personnel Board acknowledged the increased duties of the Auditorium Operations Supervisor by revising the class specification and by a change in the job title to Entertainment Facilities Operations Supervisor. Council established a revised salary in line with the increased level of responsibilities. Since the Auditorium continues to operate at an undiminished pace, the incumbent has been required to delegate additional duties to the Event Attendant III who serves as staff assistant. These added duties include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, disciplining and terminating of Event Attendant I's and II's; meeting promoters to show facility capabilities and discuss technical performance requirements on rentals. By taking on this important role, along with the Entertainment Facilities Operations Supervisor, the available staff time to show potential clients the facility is doubled. These duties, in addition to all former functions, constitute a considerable increase over those falling to an Event Attendant III, and a partial shift of responsibilities previously assigned. to the former Auditorium Operations Supervisor position. The recommended salary is revised fo a level between Entertainment Facilities Operations Supervisor and Event Attendant III. Mayor anc iity Council November 14, 1978 Page Three Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution amending Salary Resolution No. 4646, creating the new salary range for Pier Carpenter at $1,189/mo., and for Event Attendant Supervisor at $1,308/mo.
