SUBJECT: Undergrounding of Utilities on Eleventh Street
Pico and Ocean Park Boulevards - Priority 4(a),
The Cit,r Ccuncil, at its meeting of E'eb-ruary 11, 1959, approved
the "Proposed Priority List - Utility Undergrounding, Revision 2"
as the original step in implementing ou-r Utility Undergrounding
Ordinance (Ordinance 773 G.C.S® - Section 7800 et seq. SI~urlC).
Priority No, i - Montana Avenue bet?are en Ocean Avemae and Lincoln
Boulevard has been completed at a cost to the Edison Company of

Priority No, 3 - Stes~rart Street betoreen Exposition Boulevard and
Pico Boulevard is cor^_pleted, but pcles cannot be removed until neTrr
street lights are installed in conjunction ~,aith the proposed
vridening of Ste~rart Street.
Priority No, 9 - t~iontana Avenue bett~reen Seventeenth Street and
T.~renty-sixth Street is currently under construction,
Priority No. 2 - Seventeenth Street between Pearl Street and Ocean
Park Boulevard is not being considered at this tune, due to the
scope of this project being only about 35,000. This project will
be considered in the near future,
By letter dated December 13, 1971, the Southern California Edison
Company informed t'ris office that Santa I~lonica°s 1972 allocation
of funds for underground conversion under Rule 20-A will be
136,290. This amount, plus any available carry-over from past
allocations, makes it possible to consider prog-rarnming Priority
ZE a -Eleventh Street between. Pico Boulevard and Ocean Park
Boulevard as the next undergrounding project.

In addition to t'_ne private properties affected, as listed above,
the follot~rirg City-o,•rned facilities ~-r:ill also require modification:
four street light circuits, and two traffic signal locations. The
total cast of this vro-rk is estimated to be X2,900.
Transmitted herewith is a proposed Resolution of the City Council
expressing its intention to establish the subject underground
utility district and setting a date for a public hearing therefor,
It is recommended that the City Council be requested to adopt the
above Resolution.
There are several intersections along Eleventh Street i~ehere Edison
Company street lights noi~r exist, These street lights are mounted
or. Edison Gom~pany poles that are recommended to be remaved.
Therefore, in order to -:aintain the lighting at the intersections,
and to also provide a, lighting system for the remaining portion
bet~•reen the intersections, it is also recarrmended that the City
Council instruct the Street Superintendent to initiate loll Act
street lighting proceedings on Eleventh Street bet~~,-een Pico
Baulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard,
