The Chief o£ Police has requested consideration of the installa-
tion of traffic safety hazard lighting at Sixteenth, Seventeenth, and
Eighteenth Streets on .Pieo Boulevard opposite the new City College campus.
You vrill find attached memorandum dated April 14, 1952 from Captain Earl
Reinhold, describing this hazardous condition.
The Electrioal Superintendent has made a preliminary investiga-
tion and recommends that the poor lighting could be corrected by the in-
stallation of a total of eight 20,000 lumen mercury vapor standards at the
intersections of Sixteenth Street, Seventeenth Street and Eighteenth Street.
Gasoline tax funds are available £or reprogramming in the amount
of X7,264.30 which was r®funded by the City to the County of Los Angeles on
April 22, 1952, representing the saving on County Gasoline Tax Projects Nos.
C-56 and C-5`7. It is estimated this amount is sufficient to install the
subject lights.
If you agree that the lighting should be installed, it is sug-
gested the attached resolution. be referred $o the City Attorney for review
and approval for presentation to the City Council.
