Thank you for forwarding to me a copy of the
resolution of the. City of Santa Monica requesting the expan-
sion of the County Building. in Santa Monica... We are very
appreciative of the generosity of the City Council in making
added land available for this purpose.
I anticipate, however, that no further con-
struction of any court facilities will be ordered until the
details of the multi-department regional court plan have
been fully worked out. The first step of this plan is the
division of the county into the limited number of regonal
court districts which, as you know, is in the preliminary
stages at the moment. T.he second step will be the securing
of legislation approving and implementing the multi-department
regional court plan. The third step will be the formalizing of
the district boundaries and the next step the determination by
the Board of Supervisors, with the concurrence of the judges
of the court, of the location for the construction of additional
facilities to serve each of the districts as the demands and
needs for such additional facilities arise.
I am sure that in its consideratian of additional
facilities the Board of Supervisors will want to give each of
the cities and bar associations within the respective districts
ample notice and a time to be heard so that such facilities
can be located and constructed in the best manner to serve
the entire area,
On behalf of the judges of the court may I ex-
press to your City Council through you our sincere apprecia-
tion for the fine cooperation. "h~ich the court has always been
accorded by the officials of to Monica.
