sr-012511-13b13- January 25, 2011 Council Meeting: Santa Monica, California CITY CLERK'S OFFICE -MEMORANDUM To: City Council From: Councilmember O'Day Date: January 25, 2011 13-B: Request by Councilmember O'Day that Council act on the September 2010 recommendation from the Environmental Task Force that the City develop a plan to achieve 100% self sufficiency on local water sources by 2020 by scheduling a study session in early March to examine the City's water supply and to potentially direct staff to develop the plan for self-sufficiency by 2020. In its September 2010 meeting, the Environmental Task Force approved a motion "recommending that City Council direct staff to develop a plan to reach a 100% sustainable water supply (100% water self sufficiency from local sources) by 2020. This plan should include 1) a safe yield analysis of all City owned ground water resources, including the Charnock, Olympic and Arcadia basins, 2) an analysis of the impact of enhanced ground water augmentation through storm water infiltration on the transport of contaminates, and 3) a thorough economic analysis of the costs, benefits and potential savings that could be achieved by reaching this sustainable goal." 13-B January 25, 2011 1
