sr-112310-3m~~r ~;tYof City Council Report Santa Monica City Council Meeting: November 23, 2010 Agenda Item: ~J- M To: Mayor and City Council From: Andy Agle, Director of Housing and Economic Development Subject: Resolution Endorsing Business-Friendly Principles in Support of SCAG's Southern California Economic Growth Strategy Recommended Action Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution endorsing "Business-Friendly Principles" in support of the Southern California Association of Governments' Southern California Economic Growth Strategy. Executive Summary The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is hosting The Southern California Road to Economic Recovery Summit on December 2, 2010, and has asked each of its members to adopt a resolution in support of Business-Friendly Principles to demonstrate the region's commitment to remove impediments to economic recovery. The attached resolution states the City's commitment to streamlined operations for efficient and responsive business assistance. Discussion SCAG is hosting its Southern California Road to Economic Recovery Summit on December 2, 2010, at which time it will present Governor-Elect Jerry Brown with key findings regarding high priority .State impediments to economic recovery, and agreement among its members to removing those impediments. To demonstrate support, SCAG has asked each of its members to adopt a resolution in ,support of Business-Friendly Principles. The attached resolution states the City's commitment to making economic development a priority, providing quality municipal services to attract and retain businesses and 1 employees, being responsive to businesses, and continually improving its attractiveness to businesses. Financial Impacts & Budget Actions Adoption of the proposed resolution has no impact on the City's budget. Continued implementation of its principles will help strengthen the City's economy by supporting business activity within the City.
