SUBJECT: City-owned Property at Washington Boulevard and Norman Place
The subject property, which has been appraised pursuant to
Council order, is a 50' x 100' lot on the northeasterly corner
of Washington Boulevard and Norman Place. It is directly
across Norman Place from the site of the present Ocean Park
Branch Library, which is on the northeasterly corner of Wash-
ington Boulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard.
The proposed street plan for the area contemplates the vacation
of both Norman Place and Washington Boulevard.
The present Ocean Park Branch Library was constructed in
1919. It seems unlikely that the existing structure will be
adequate in any way to provide for the increased population
and demand for library facilities in that area, which will be
developed as Redevelopment Project i(a) moves toward
completion.
It is the recommendation of this office that the subject property
be retained in City ownership fax use in conjunction with the
existing library site plus the vacated portions of the two streets
in order to provide a future site for a new Ocean Park Branch
Library buildang and the necessary adjacent parking area.
