SUBJECT: Ordinance Creating the Department of Entertainment
Facilities and Authorizing Consolidation of the
Auditorium and Pier Operations
Introduction
This report transmits the attached ordinance for
introduction for first reading and public hearing.
Background
The City Council authorized the preparation of
the attached ordinance at its meeting of January 24, 1978.
The attached ordinance combines the functions of the Civic
Auditorium with. the functions of the Santa Monica Pier,
creating a Department of Entertainment Facilities. A
copy of the previous staff report is attached for information
purposes. Additionally, a resolution increasing the salary
of the Director of Entertainment Facilities by $3,000, as
was provided in the previous staff report will be submitted
for Council action at the time the ordinance is submitted
for adoption.
Alternative Solutions
The alternative solutions are to introduce the

attached ordinance as written, or to introduce the attached
ordinance with such modifications as the City Council
deems advisable.
Recommendation
It is respectfully recommended that the City
Council introduce the attached ordinance for first reading
and hold a public hearing thereon.
