Introduction
This report transmits for second reading and
adoption an ordinance, limiting the number of rent raises
permissible on a unit of residential real property to one
(1) per year,
Background
The City Council requested this ordinance at its
meeting of January 9, 1979. The ordinance was introduced,
and amended on the floor, at the January 23, 1979 City Council
meeting. It adds Chapter 6 to Article IV of the Santa P9onica
Municipal Code; it limits the number of rent raises permissible
for any residential unit that has not been voluntarily vacated
to one (1) per year.
The attached staff report dated January 23, 1979
explains the background.
The ordinance, as amended, does not affect residential
units that have been voluntarily vacated by tenants, or cahere
the tenant has been evicted for non-payment of rent, or viola-
tion of a rental agreement.
