At last night's meeting of the Planning Commission
one of the members brought up the news. story to the
effect that an exploratory well is proposed by Occident-
al Oil Company at a site a short distance north of
Santa Monica Canyon.
As a result of this discussion, the Commission ex-
pressed great concern in view of the experience of the
City of Santa Barbara and in view of the fact that there '
is a natural gas and oil seepage from an under water lo-
cation about two miles west of the proposed site.
The Commission, therefore,.. instructed me to convey
to your Honorable Body its recommendation that all law-
fu1 steps be taken to protect the interests of the City
of Santa Monica and its waterfront in the premises.
