T, Kennedy, Acting City Engineer SUBJECT: Preliminary Plans, New Transportation Department Facility As you know, the City% has engaged the consulting engineering firm of Parker, Zehnder and Associates to design the new Transportation Department Facility which will occupy tine abandoned Pacific Electric Railway right of vvay between Fiftn Street and Lincoln Boulevard and tine old trailer park adjacent thereto on the northvaest. Section 3(b} of t'_ne design contract requires the consulting engineer to prepare prel-imina-ry plans and _pre- lirninary cost estimate or' the proposed improvement and obtain ap~oroval thereo?' by the City Council. Section 3(c) of said contract _orovides that the engineer vrill, afte~° preliminary plans and estimate have been approved, and if ordered so to do by the City Council, ;orepare ,corking draawings and spe~ifi- cations necessary for th.e award. of a contract for the con- struction of said Trans=oortation Department racility. This ~nTork, estimated to cost s~53,030, will be financed with State Gasoline Tax funds at no cost to the subject Facility. Included as a part of this cortraet, but to be paid for with City funds, is the construction of an employee's parking lot in the fillets -right of ,rray bet?green Lincoln Boulevard and Seventh Street, at an estimated cost of 512,540. In addition to the cost items listed. above, the total cost of the _project tfrill include engineering and design fees and the cost of certain items of equipment not included in the construction contract for the 1^ransportation Facility.
