The Transportation Department needs authorization to employ six
additional Motor Coach Operators; two for school trippers and four
on the #2 Wilshire Boulevard Lane.
Since last April, when the budget was prepared, passenger volume
has increased to such an extent that the present bus schedules with
respect to both the Wilshire line and the West Los Angeles school
trips are both overloading and being compelled to pass up passengers.
Considering the experience of public transportation generally, this
increase in patronage is a gratif'}ing tribute to the superior service
upon which our present reputation is founded, To permit this service
to deteriorate would be self-defeating and unwise,
It is the recommendation of this office that authorization be granted
£or the employment of the additional drivers requestedd
An appropriation to A/c 4220 Drivers' Wages will be necessary in the
amount of $27, 000, plus a corresponding addition to Transportation
Department estimated revenues.
