SUBJECT: Petition for Street Lighting - Stanford Street between Washington
Avenue and Montana Avenue.
Introduction
City Staff has received a petition for installation of street lighting on
Stanford Street between Washington Avenue and Montana Avenue. The petition
is signed by 53% of the property owners which represent 50.5% of the
assessable frontage.
Bac_ k
City Council policy is that the City pay for 1/2 the cost of street lighting
in residential areas. The estimated 1/2 cost, City's share, was $17,288. In
accordance with costs received recently from contractors, the construction
costs have increased drastically and the City's portion may be as much as
$25,000 by the time the contract is awarded.
The City's share of the cost must be obligated at the time the contract is
awarded and the funds made available at the end of construction.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council instruct the Street Superintendent
to institute proceedings for this improvement under the Improvement Act
of 1911.
