r Buying the months of February and March, a thorough study was made of the
Civic Auditorium operations, finances, and administrative policies, A detailed
report has been prepared and will be submitted to City Manager-elect Ernest N.
Mobley.
However, one serious problem exists which requires the immediate attention of
the City Council, This concerns the ticket sales operation, which is now costing
the City approximately $5, 000 per yeas and, in addition, is creating some severe
accounting problems. This office recommends that ticket sales operations be
retained on the premises but that they be located in the box office area, Further,
it is recommended that the ticket sales operation be turned over to an independent
ticket agency.
An independent ticket agency would not only provide ticket sale services to Audi-
torium events, but. would also handle tickets for events held elsewhere.. Thus, a
person interested in buying tickets to any event in Southern California would be
attracted to the Auditorium and might possibly purchase tickets to an Auditorium
event,
Minor modifications would have to be made in the box office area, since a parti-
tion would have to be constructed to separate advance ticket sales from the
regular ticket sales,
If the City Council sees fit to implement this recommendation, a motion is in
order directing the City Manager to contract for ticket sales services and
instructing the City Attorney to draft an amendment to Section 8A of Resolution
No, 2086, thereby establishing a legal basis for said contract and eliminating the
City's responsibility for operating this service.
