Methods of Notifying Residents Regarding Water Quality
On July 23 (Item 13-H), the City Council directed staff "to report to Council
on August 27 regarding costs and recommended procedures for notifying residents
... regarding monitor test results" of City wells and TCE monitoring.
Background
Methods which the staff believes are available for notifying residents with
regard to water quality are: 1) Inserts in water bills; 2) A direct mailing;
3) Information in the Seascape;. 4) News media releases; and/or 5) Handbills
delivered door to door. The various options are listed below with the costs
and other comments relating to each.

Recommendation
Staff recommends that news media releases be used to inform the public with
regard to water quality because it is the most timely method. It reaches a
considerable number of citizens and it has no direct cost.
