SUBJECT: Confirmation of the 1977 zrleed Abatement Assessment Roll
Introduction
This report contains the assessment roll for the 1977 Weed Abatement
Program, and concerns the confirmation of said roll.
Background
On January 11, 1977, the City Council adopted a resolution, No. 4828
(CCS), declaring certain weeds growing in Pront of or on each separate
parcel within the City of Santa Monica, to be a public nuisance and
set February 22, 1977, as the date for a public hearing.
On January 19, 20, and 21, 1977, each parcel described in the Resolution
of Intention, was posted announcing the date and hour of the public
hearing. A notice inviting bids was published in the "Evening Outlook"
and "The Green Sheet" on January 24 and 25, 1977, and bid proposals
were prepared and mailed to ten (10) various contractors on January 24,
1977• The final date for the submittal of sealed bids was February 7,
1977 at 2:00 P.M. Two (2) sealed bids were opened publicly on
February 7, 1977 at 3:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers by the City Clerk
and were presented to the Council at its' February 22, 1977 meeting.
On February 22, 1977, the public hearing was held, after which the
Street Superintendent was ordered to cause the weeds to be abated, and
the award of contract was made to Gary's Lot Cleaning. The work was
completed in five {5) operations, from March to July, 1977.

The City Council, after public hearing, should, by motion, confirm
the assessment roll.
The assessment roll must be completed, confirmed and delivered
to the County Assessor's office by no later than August 10, 1977•
Alternative Solution
If the assessment roll is not confirmed by the City Council on
August 9, 1977, the various assessments will have to be carried over
until August, 1978.
The total amount of the assessment is $13,739.03. The difference
between the $18,596.10 and the $13,739.03 is the charges for City
properties.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council approve, by motion, the
1977 Weed Abatement Assessment Roll.
