sr-072881-6p~. ~v~°~ JUL 2 8 1981 Santa Monica, California, July 13, 1981 T0: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Confirmation of the 1981 Weed Abatement Assessment Roll Introduction This report requests the City Council confirm the costs of the work and the 1981 Weed Abatement Roll which is on file in the office of the City Clerk. Background On January 14, 1981 (Item 6-K), the City Council adopted Resolution No. 6168 (CCS), in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 13, Section 39500 to 39588, Title 4 of the Government Code, declaring certain weeds growing in front of or on each separate parcel within the City of Santa Monica to be a public nuisance and set March 10, 1981, as the date for a public hearing. On January 21, 22, and 23, 1981, each parcel described in the Resolution of Intention was posted announcing the date and hour of the public hearing. A notice inviting bids was published in the Evening Outlook on January 22 and 23, 1981, and bid proposals were prepared and mailed to six (6) various contractors on January 22, 1981. The final date for the submittal of sealed bids was February 10, 1981, at 2:30 p.m. One sealed bid was opened publicly on February 10, 1981, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers by the City Clerk and was presented to the Council at its March 10, 1981 me ting., G l/1 ~ JUl 2 8 1981 To: Mayor and Council -2- July 13, 1981 On March 10, 1981 (Item 6-K), the public hearing was held, after which the Street Superintendent was ordered to cause the weeds to be abated, and the award of contract was made to Gary's Lot Cleaning. The work was com- pleted in five operations from April to July, 1981,. at a total cost of $27,239.72. The total amount of the assessment is $22,212.92. The dif- ference between the $27,239.72 and the $22,212.92 is the cost of weed abatement on City properties. The assessment roll must be completed, confirmed, and delivered to the County Assessor's office by no later than July 31, 1981. If the assessment roll is not confirmed by the City Council on July 28, 1981, the various assessments will have to be carried over ~ until August, 1982.
