SUBJECT: Accept Petition and Set Public Hearing for November 11, 1980
on the Street Lighting Petition: 1700 Block of Sunset Avenue
Introduction
City staff has received a petition for installation of street lighting on
the 1700 block of Sunset Avenue. The petition is signed by 65% of the
property owners, meeting the requirements of the Improvement Act of 1911.
Background
It is City Council policy for the City to pay for 1/2 the cost of street
lighting construction in residential areas. The City's estimated share
for this job is $17,000.00. The City's share of the cost must be obligated
at the time the contract is awarded to ensure funds will be available at the
end of construction.
Recommendation
It is recommended City Council accept the attached petition and pass the
Resolution of Intention and Resolution on the Convenience and Necessity
establishing the proposed district under the Improvement Act of 1911.

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Honorable City Council of the City of Santa Monica,
to initiate the proceedings necessary to perform the following described work:
For the construction of a Fligh Pressure Sodium Street Lighting SysL•em in Sunset Avenue .between
17th Street and Dewey Street.
under the provisions of the Improvement Act of 1911. 7t is understood that the owners of property
within the proposed improvement clisi;rice shall bear one-half the cost incidental 'to the performance
of said work. T1: is further understood that all such i~roperty owners may pay 'the: costs. of said work
either through a cash payment or through installment paynierrts br~aring 7% interest j~aicl semi-annually
until the full amount is paid, and any unpaid assessments shall become a direct lien against the
particular property so assessed.
The estimated cost as herein stated is the estiiirated cost of the proposed work, including
incidental expenses, at the time of initiating this petitionm Since considerable Limo may elapse
between the circulation of this petition and the actual construction, this estimate does not
necessarily represent the aci.;ua1 final cost of the. completed work„
Thus petition is being circulated by Mr. George Devendor•f, 1757 Sunset Avenue, Santa Monica.
