sr-062210-1kCity Council Meeting: June 22, 2010 Agenda Item: 1 '-' To: Mayor and City Council From: Stephanie Negriff, Director of Transit Servcies Subject: Big Blue Bus "Baker's Dozen" Fare Cards Recommended Action Staff recommends that the City Council approve the price correction for Regular, Non- Express Baker's Dozen Fare Card of $12 effective August 29, 2010. Executive Summary On Mav 25. 2010, Council approved a new Big Blue Bus fare structure to be implemented August 29, 2010 with provision for a Baker's Dozen Card, good for 13 hoardings for the price of 12 hoardings. Attachment E of the May 25, 2010 staff report listed the pricing for the Regular, Non-Express Baker's Dozen fare card at $15. The correct price is $12. Discussion The staff report of Mav 25, 2010 included discussion of the new "Baker's Dozen" single boarding discount card for passengers who are infrequent riders and who don't need to transfer. The Baker's Dozen card would offer 13 non-express hoardings for the price of 12 hoardings. The price of the card in the regular fare category was iricorrectly listed as $15; it should have been $12, equivalent to 92 cents per boarding. The price for those who qualify for the senior/disabilities/Medicare fare, $6, equivalent to 46 cents per boarding is correct. Since the purpose of the card is to encourage local trips, transfers would not be sold in conjunction with the Baker's Dozen card. Baker's Dozen cards will be available at outlets located throughout the Big Blue Bus service area and through Internet sales. Financial Impacts There is no financial impact to the correction of this fare. This discount rate was incorporated into the overall Big Blue Bus fare revenue projections presented in the May 25, 2010 staff report.
