A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA MODIFYING THE NAME OF
THE WOODLAWN CEMETERY AND AUTHORIZING
THE CEMETERY TO APPLY FOR MORTUARY LICENSE WITH
THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS
TO OPERATE A FUNERAL ESTABLISHMENT
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica owns and operates the public cemetery
known as the Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum; and
WHEREAS, there is another cemetery in the Southern. California region also
known as the Woodlawn Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, in order to distinguish between the two cemeteries, the City desires
to modify the name of its cemetery from "Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum" to "City
of Santa Monica Woodlawn Cemetery, Mausoleum,-and Mortuary"; and
WHEREAS, the City is continually seeking ways to provide additional services to
the public and to improve the marketability of the cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to apply for a mortuary license with the State of
California to provide mortuary services at the cemetery.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Cemetery Administrator is hereby authorized to submit an
application to the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs to operate a
funeral establishment. The Cemetery Administrator is hereby directed to identify the
following corporate officers as required on the application: City Manager as President,
Assistant City Manager as Vice President, Director of Finance as Treasurer, and City
Clerk as Secretary.
SECTION 2. The price schedule for mortuary services attached hereto as
Exhibit 1 is hereby adopted and effective as of July 1, 2010.
SECTION 3. Commencing on July 1, 2011, and on July 1 of each fiscal year
thereafter; all prices set by this resolution shall be administratively revised and
increased annually by a factor equal to the difference in the Los Angeles-Anaheim-
Riverside Consumer Price Index for Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the twelve
(12) month period February through February of the prior fiscal year, except that any
such administrative revision shall not be less than any annual cost of living adjustment
provided to the employees of the City of Santa Monica through Memorandums of
Understanding entered. into between the City and the employees' bargaining
representatives for the comparable fiscal year, and in no event shall the annual
administrative revision be less than zero percent (0%).
SECTION 4. The name of the Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum shall be
changed to: City of Santa Monica Woodlawh Cemetery, Mausoleum, and Mortuary.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.

City of Santa Monica Woodlawn Cemetery Mortuary General Price List
Effective July 1, 2010
• BASIC SERVICES OF FUNERAL DIRECTOR AND STAFF: $2,850.00
This charge is for staff to respond to initial request for service; arrangement
conference with family or responsible party; preparation and procurement of
necessary certificates and permits; transportation of floral arrangements within a 30-
mile radius of the Woodlawn Cemetery;. preparation of obituary notices (not including
newspaper charges); planning of funeral arrangements and. coordination of service
with other physicians, coroner's officials, health departments, cemeteries or
mortuaries (if applicable), crematory, casket and vault companies, and others as
required. Also included in this charge are overhead expenses relative to our facility
such as insurance, maihtenance and utility expenses, administrative costs, staff
salaries, taxes and licenses, and inventory expenses. This charge for our basic
services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements
you select.
• USE OF EQUIPMENT, FACILITIES, AND STAFF: $825.00
This charge is for the use of chapels; receipt and arrangement of flowers; and all
necessary equipment and staff for services, ceremonies, or viewings conducted at
the Woodlawn Cemetery or other facilities.
• EMBALMING OR REFRIGERATION $335.00
This charge is for the embalming or refrigeration of the decedent. Except in certain
special cases, embalming is not required by law; however, embalming may be
necessary if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing.
If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement
that does not require you to pay for the service, such as direct cremation or
immediate burial
• OTHER PREPARATION OF REMAINS: $100.00
This charge is for the necessary staff and the use of equipment and facilities for
sanitary care, bathing, dressing, cosmetics, and hair styling of the decedent.
• TRANSFER OF REMAINS TO MORTUARY: $595.00
This charge is for the vehicle and personnel to transfer the decedent to Woodlawn
Cemetery within a 30-mile radius of the Cemetery. Transportation in excess of 30
miles will be subject to an additional charge of $1.50 per mile.
• FUNERAL COACH (HEARSE): $295.00
This charge is for the transportation of the decedent to funeral ceremony and place
of final disposition within a 30-mile radius of the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Transportation in excess of 30 miles will be subject to an additional charge of $1.50
per mile.
• DIRECT CREMATION (No Visitation or Service): $1,895.50
This charge is for the cremation process wherein no services, ceremonies, or
viewings will be held for the decedent. Also included is a minimum cremation
container that meets crematory requirements. This charge does not include
scattering at sea or other disposition of the cremated remains.
• IMMEDIATE BURIAL (No Visitation or Service): $1,395.00
This charge is for the immediate burial at the Woodlawn Cemetery or another
cemetery within 30 miles of Woodlawn. Cemetery wherein no services, ceremonies,
or viewings will be held for the decedent. This charge does not include the price of a
casket.
