sr-120881-7aGS:SES:MH:KS Santa Monica, California November 30, 1981 s T0: Mayor and City Council DEC 8 1981 FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Public Hearing on the Proposed Street Lighting District on the 200 Block of Euclid Street Between Georgina and Brentwood Terrace Introduction This report requests City Council hold a public hearing on the construction of high pressure sodium street lighting in the 200 block of Euclid Street between Georgina and Brentwood Terrace, all within the City of Santa Monica. Background Citizens of the 200 block of Euclid Street presented a petition signed by 76% of the property owners for the subject street lighting district. During the 1981-82 Budget sessions, Council appropriated $100,000 for street lighting projects. To date, no funds have been encumered for any projects. In accordance with Council policy, the City pays half the cost of the project. The estimated cost to the City is $13,400 to be appropriated prior to award of contract. The property owners will pay the other half, payable in full or by yearly installments on a 10-year bond at 7% interest for any unpaid assessments over $150.00. sEC a asst. 6S:SES:MH:KS Santa Monica, California November 30, 1981 On November 10, 1981, the Council accepted the petition and initiated this project by adoption of Resolution No. 6392 instructing the Superintendent of Streets to order the work done. The City Council must now hold a public hearing to hear and pass upon objections or protests to the order to construct high-pressure sodium street lighting, if any, by any property owner or other interested party. Prior to calculating the assessments on this project, staff will submit a report on the method of assessing corner properties. Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Open the public hearing; 2. Close the public hearing and overrule any protests; 3. Adopt the resolution ordering the work.
