T0: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Proposed Street Lighting on Oak Street
Between Twenty-third and Twenty-fifth
Streets and Ocean Park Boulevard between
Euclid and Fourteenth Streets
Introduction
This report requests the City Council initiate a Street Lighting
District on Oak Street between Twenty-third and Twenty-fifth
Streets and Ocean Park Boulevard between Euclid and Fourteenth
Streets under provisions of the Improvement Act of 1911 and to set
a public hearing for February 24, 1981.
Background
Citizens in the above area have requested street lighting
improvements.
City Council policy is that the City pays for half the cost of the
installation of residential street lighting, and the other half of
the cost is assessed to the property owners. The proceedings
proposed for this project are under the Improvement Act of 1911,
and will allow the property owners to pay cash on confirmation of
their assessment, or allow the assessments to be paid by a 10-year
bond at 7% interest on the unpaid balance.
This project is estimated to cost $75,500.00. Half of the cost is
to be assessed to the property owners as shown on the attached
Map. The estimated cost to the property owner is $11.48 per front
foot.

The improvement plans, specifications, and assessment maps will be
prepared after the public hearings and prior to the adoption of
the Resolution ordering the work.
Recommendation
It is recommended the City Council initiate this project by:
1. Adopting the attached Resolution setting a
date for a public hearing on the convenience
and necessity; and
2. Adopting the attached Resolution of Intention
which also sets a public hearing date.
