SUBJECT: Recommendation to Waive Formal Bid Procedures for
Procurement of Ballasts for City Street Lighting
effective June 1, 1981 through May'30, 1982,
Introduction
This report concerns Procurement of Ballasts (activator for fluores-
cense lights) for City Street Lighting in the estiriated amount
of $125,000,00 including applicable sales tax. Funds for this
purchase have been budgeted in account number 13023-000.
Background
The above High Pressure Sodium Conversion Ballasts are compatible
with the City's existing street lighting equipment. They are
manufactured and marketed exclusively by Unicorn Electric Products
thereby making this a sole source procurement in accordance with
Section 2506-A of the Santa Monica Municipal Code "Exception to
Competitive Bidding".
Reconmendaton
It is recommended that the attached resolution be approved authorizing
the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement for this pro-
curement to Unicorn Electric Products. Co.
