The Building Department recommends that the Sign Ordinance '
introduced at the Council Meeting on July 10, 1856, be amended in the
follovaing respects:
1. Section 8520A should be amended to read as follows:.

2. Section X3525 should be amended to read as follows:
''Section 8525. Billboards. No billboard shall exceed
Twelve feet six inches (12' o"} vertically or fifty
feet (50') horizontally;provided, however, that
letters, figures, characters or representations in
cutout or irregular form may be maintained in con-
junction with, attached to cr superimposed upon any
ground si n but shall not extend more than five and
one-half (g52) feet above or below the ornamental
moulding. The total surface of such letters, figures,
.characters or representations shall not exceed thirty
per cent {30J) of the total area of the surface sign
space of the ground sign; and no single letter, figure,
character or representations shall exceed ten per cent
{10u;} of the total area of the surface sign space of
the ground sign. An ornamental moulding or cornice
not to exceed tvao (2) feet in width may be placed
around the surface of the ground sign, i~o billboard
erected on a vacant lot shall exceed twenty-one feet
(21'} in height. No billboard on a parking lot shall
exceed twenty-four feet six inches (24'6") in height.
No billboard along the side of a building shall
exceed twenty-nine feet (2g') in height. Billboards
shall have a clear space.. of eighteen feet (18'}
bettiti*een the sign and the ground. All timber posts
used in billboards construction shall be protected
with an approved preservative."
3. Section 8526 should be amended to read as follows:
"Section X526. Billboards. Billboards shall be
permitted only in such areas as enclosed within
the red lines on pSap No. 1 approved by the City
Gouncil on the day of on

shall be installed as ground signs only; pro-
vided billboards may be erected as roof signs
if made an integral part of the building."
