SUBJECT: Ordinance requiring owners of apartments
to notify existing and prospective tenants
that conversion procedures have been initiated.
ItITRODUCTION
This report transmits for second reading and adoption a
condominium conversion notice ordinance. This ordinance was
introduced at the Council rgeeting of September 11, 1979.
BACKGROUND
Numerous complaints have been made that apartments
cahich are at'various stages of the condominium conversion
procedure are being rented to necr tenants who are unaware
of the situation. In response to this problem, City Council
introduced an ordinance that the situation will require the
apartment owners to give written notice to existing tenants
and to new tenants prior to the execution of a rental
agreement. It also requires the posting of such notice on the
property, and pravides for a civil remedy in the event of
violation.
ALTSZZJATIVES
The Cotvncil may adopt the ordinance as introduced, may
amend it and reintroduce it, or may reject it.

It is respectfully recommended that the City Council adopt
the attached ordinance.
