A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING CELEBRATION OF THE SANTA
MONICA PIER CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009, AND
IMPLEMENTATION OF PARKING AND EVENT. MANAGEMENT IN SUPPORT OF
THE EVENT
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica will be celebrating the Centennial
Anniversary of the Santa Monica Pier on September 9, 2009; and
WHEREAS, the City and the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation are
planning an extensive celebration that will include a re-dedication of the Pier, music and
entertainment on the beach, fire works and other activities that are expected to attract
large crowds of people to the beach and Downtown areas; and
WHEREAS, this event will be a landmark celebration in the City's history; and
WHEREAS, it is the City's goal to manage this event in a manner that protects
the health and safety of the public and mitigates traffic and parking congestion; and
WHEREAS, one of the most important ways the City can ensure the success of
the event is to encourage participants to walk, bicycle, or use public transportation on
the day of the event.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AND PROCLAIM AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council authorizes the Santa Monica Pier Centennial
Anniversary Celebration as detailed in this Resolution and the July 28, 2009, staff
report.
SECTION 2. The City Council authorizes the following parking rates on
September 9, 2009:
a. Beach Parking Facilities: $20 per entry (including tax) after 2:00 p.m.
b. Downtown Parking Facilities (PS1-9): $15 per entry (including tax) after 6:00
p.m.
c. Civic Center Parking Structure and lot: $15 per entry (including tax) after 6:00
p. m.
SECTION 3: This resolution shall not be effective until such time as appropriate
signs notifying the public of the provisions herein have been posted by the City.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
