In recent months there has been a great deal of discussion concerning the bed
tax in communities throughout California. A number of communities have hereto-
fore increased this tax to 5%, and a great many others are considering such an
increase. Mayor Spurgin has requested a summary of action taken to date, which
is as follows:

Pending County Action
It appears that both Los Angeles and Ventura Counties are currently
considering an increase in the bed tax to 5%. In the event the County
actually approves the increase, Santa Monica will be surrounded by
communities levying the 5% tax as opposed to the existing 4% tax in
Santa Monica.
