SUBJECT: Proposed Criteria for Funding Community Promotion Requests
Introduction
This report transmits proposed funding criteria for community promotion
budget requests and summarizes the level of funding for community promo-
Lion events, groups or agencies over the past five years.
Background
At their regular meeting of May 11, 1976, the Council adopted a motion
instructing the staff to prepare criteria for funding community promotion
programs for consideration at the May 25, 1976 Council meeting.
The City has funded numerous community promotion events, .agencies and
groups over past years. These funds are budgeted in the Community
Promotion portion of-the Non-Departmental program area. Funds avail-
able for this purpose are becoming increasingly scarce. Attachments 'A'
and 'B' have been prepared for Council review, comment and/or modification.
Alternatives
1. Council may allocate funds as it has in the past by evaluating material
and requests submitted by various community promotion groups and/or
agencies. However, lack of criteria makes this task difficult for
equitable allocation. Also, requests vary widely in terms of whether

all matters necessary to be considered are included in the narrative
of the request.

determining the use of available funds for community promotion
activities.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Council review the attached criteria for com-
munity promotion fund allocation, making changes as they deem necessary.
