Staff recommends that City Council award Bid #2960 to American Moving Parts to
furnish and deliver Brake Reline Kits as required by the Big Blue Bus in the estimated
annual amount of $160,000.
Executive Summary
This report awards a bid to American Moving Parts for the purchase of brake reline kits
through June 30, 2009 with two additional one-year renewal options offered by the
vendor at a 5 percent increase each year, subject to annual budget approval. The
estimated expenditure for the balance of this fiscal year is $80,000 and funds are
available in the Big Blue Bus Department budget. The total estimated expenditure for
the two and one half year term is $400,000.
Discussion
The City's fleet of transit buses requires routine brake pad replacement. The brake
reline kits will provide all necessary parts and hardware to facilitate the complete
refurbishment of the brake assembly.
Vendor Selection
In November 2008, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to provide brake reline kits
in accordance with City specifications. Bid forms were mailed to seventeen vendors,
posted on Planet Bids and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and
Municipal Code provisions. One bid was received and publically opened on November
25, 2008.
