SUBJECT: .Proposed vrideni.ng o£ Fourth Street between Colorado Avenue and
Olympic Boulevard.
Reference is made to the letter from the Santa -4oniea-Ocean Park
Chamber of Commerce which was received by the City Co:zneil at its regular
meeting held on August 24, 1948, relative to the above sub~act.
Preliminary studies have been completed by the LBpartment of
ngineering, a capy of which is submitted herewith.
Tha improvements proposed will require the acquisitian of a strip
of privately osvnad property, twelve feat in width, along the northeasterly
side of Fourth Street. The curb on the northeasterly side will ba moved
back to provide a roadway width of fifty-°t~o feet batsaean curbs, which rovidth
beir~ the same as the present width of the Fourth Street roadway to the north-
;vest of Colorado Avenue.
This office has corresponded with ali owners of property immediately
affected by the proposed widening, to ascertain their willingness to convey the
desired frontage to the City for street purposes. Following is a tabulation of
the results obtained to data, relative to the above inquirys
Janes Investment Company - willing to cooperate
Janes L. Snyder. - will deed
Gertrude rfi. Granger - under consideration
Heleaa ;tii. Rowland - no reply
Southern Pacific Railway - acknowledged-and under consideration

The proposed improvesa=rt, excl*xsi~s of land acquisition, is estimated
to cost ;17,900.
In event all property owners declare their willingness to deed the
necessary Iand to the City, it is recommended that the improvements be under-
taken by the ~it~,j, with funds from the Traffic Safety Fund.

The only other feasible method of undertaking this work, in the
event the property pre re not deeded to the Gity, would be to proceed ?.?nder
