sr-011265-8cCITY OF SANTA MONICA 0 - ,, DATE: January o, lg'o5 ''° TO: Perry Scott, City Manager ~ ~, ~' a.. FROM: Bartlett L. Kennedy, City Engineer SUBJECT: O'Hildebrandt Building at Arizona and Ocean Avenues - Request for Alley Encroachment. As you know, the City Council, at its meeting of February 11, lgo4 (Item 8-E ), authorized the issuance of a permit to Mr. Brandon O'Hildebrandt for the construction of an underground parking structure under a portion of Arizona Avenue adjacent to his proposed building, said permit to be subject to certain terms and conditions. One of the conditions was that the encroachment into First Court (except excavation near the surface for construction purposes) should not extend beyond the property line. Mr. O'Hildebrandt, at the request of his structural engi- neers, has requested that the above requirement be modified to permit the following. 1. Shoring for the excavation to extend beyond the property line to permit the building ~r1a11 to extend to property line. The top five feet of shoring to be removed upon completion of con- struction; the remainder to remain in place. 2. "Excavating under the alley, at a depth of more than 30 feet Belo*,a alley grade, for a distance of b feet to permit the construction of "Tee" footings for walls and columns. Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. O'Hildebrandt's letter re- quest together with an illustrative sketch. The requested modifications-will materially aid the con- struction of the project and will not be adverse to the City's interest. It is recommended that the City Council approve the requested encroachment. Attachments: 1. Letter 2. Sketch BARTLETT L.
